What Do You Want to Ask the Mayoral Candidates? Here’s Your Chance

The most important election in a generation for New York City is coming up sooner than you might think.

No, we don’t mean this Nov. 3 (though it’s an unquestionably crucial contest and rapidly approaching).

The big day for New Yorkers is Nov. 2, 2021. That’s when we’ll pick a new mayor in an election cycle where every major municipal office will be up for grabs, with about two-thirds of the City Council turning over, thanks to term limits. (And we’ll be dealing, for the first time, with ranked-choice voting.)

The usually high stakes have been raised markedly by the pandemic, which has already set off the most dire financial and humanitarian crisis in years, promising long-term changes and challenges for our city.

THE CITY’s team of journalists is lining up meetings with some of the declared mayoral candidates as well-known hopefuls gather in the wings and wildcard entrants weigh their options.

We plan to ask some tough questions — starting with: What’s your plan for saving the city?

But we need your help: What else do you want us to ask the potential future mayors?

Your responses will inform our questioning of the candidates as we press them on their vision for leading our city through the uncertainty to become a city transformed.

We at THE CITY believe that leadership doesn’t start with the candidates. It begins with the people of New York.

So, no pressure: Take a moment to fill out the form below so we can bring your questions and concerns to those seeking the privilege of serving the greatest city in the world.
