Coronavirus has knocked New York hard — forcing a virtual shutdown of the city as officials try to stop a spread that’s extracting a growing human toll by the day.
Everything from schools to restaurants to countless businesses have closed. Mass transit ridership has plummeted with much of the city’s population holed up indoors, social distancing.
The city’s health care workers, first responders and other essential staff, from grocers to delivery people, are still out there doing their best to keep New Yorkers as healthy, safe and stocked as possible.
Meanwhile, we’re still reporting. But much of our work these days is done through the phones, email and texts or chat apps like WhatsApp and Signal.
You have been instrumental in keeping us updated on what’s happening in your homes, on the job and on the streets. Your questions, tips and experiences have been crucial in shaping our coverage — and will become even more so with traditional public life on hold until further notice.

Too often lost amid the growing numbers of COVID-19 deaths in New York City are the stories of those now gone. If you lost someone to coronavirus or work with families who have, we want to hear from you. With your help, we can share the stories of the New Yorkers taken from us too soon.
