It’s been about a year since THE CITY started The Open Newsroom, our effort to make local news more collaborative.

We’ve been experimenting with different ways — especially during the pandemic — to connect people with information, resources and stories.

With many things in flux these days, especially around issues like rent and jobs, we’re trying something new to get you the latest info.

Our idea is to start two ongoing series of updates that you can receive via text, email or our Facebook group: one focused on renting and tenant issues, and the other on unemployment and working in the time of COVID-19.

The goal is to quickly and simply get you what you need to know to help you get through these challenging times. And as with everything we do, we’ll ask you questions along the way to help us shape the information we deliver.

The plan is to check in regularly with some of the housing and jobs experts who participated in our most recent Virtual Open Newsrooms to get the latest updates. We’ll share this information and other news and resources, from THE CITY and beyond, in regular, digestible messages.

So if a law changes, a new program becomes available or a new tip for tenants or workers emerges, we’ll break down what it could mean for you. And of course, we’ll do our best to answer your questions.

Like everything with The Open Newsroom, this new venture is a two-way street. And we’re hoping you’ll join us on the latest journey. Sign up below or join our Facebook group here.
