Millions of people across the country risk losing their homes when eviction moratoriums expire. And many landlords face financial losses from months of nonpayment of rent.
Here in New York, eviction protections are extended through the rest of the year for tenants who can demonstrate they are facing financial hardships due to COVID-19. The extension of the Tenant Safe Harbor Act bars the courts from issuing eviction warrants for unpaid rent but allows landlords to seek money judgements.
Despite the protections, some tenants are still facing eviction or harassment. THE CITY is working on multiple fronts to cover this ongoing, unfolding crisis. And we need your help.
