Demonstrators massed across the city Friday and Saturday to protest police brutality after the death of George Floyd, who died after a white Minneapolis cop pressed his knee into the 46-year-old black man’s neck.
Outrage over the May 25 incident, caught on video, sparked protests across a nation already gripped by a pandemic.
Our team captured images from the demonstrations, some marked by clashes between protesters and police.
Most who took to streets across the city delivered their message primarily through their presence and their words — including on Staten Island where the crowd offered a call-and-response chant that spoke to past and present, the local and universal: “Eric Garner! George Floyd!”.

NYPD officers just drove an SUV into a crowd of human beings. They could‘ve killed them, &we don’t know how many they injured.
NO ONE gets to slam an SUV through a crowd of human beings.@NYCMayor these officers need to be brought to justice, not dismissed w/“internal reviews.” https://t.co/oIaBShSC1S
